Theme: “Whole”

 Hymn 12
 Violet Hay

Arise ye people, take your stand,
Cast out your idols from the land,
Above all doctrine, form or creed
Is found the Truth that meets your need.
Christ's promise stands: they that believe
His works shall do, his power receive.

Go forward then, and as ye preach
So let your works confirm your speech,
And prove to all with following sign
The Word of God is power divine.
 In love and healing ministry
Show forth the Truth that makes men free.

 O Father‑Mother God, whose plan
 Hath given dominion unto man,
In Thine own image we may see
Man pure and upright, whole and free.
And ever through our work shall shine
That light whose glory, Lord, is Thine.

Readings from the Bible.

Psalms 48:1,2,9,10
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.  Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.  According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

Psalms 72:18,19 (to ;)
Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.  And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory;

Psalms 111:1‑10
Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.  The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.  His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.  He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.  He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.  He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.  The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.  They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.  He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Psalms 119:1,2,10‑16,33‑40,57,58,68,69,144,145
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.  Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.  Blessed art thou, O Lord: teach me thy statutes.  With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.  I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.  I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.  I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.  Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.  Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.  Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.  Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.  Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.  Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.  Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

Thou art my portion, O Lord: I have said that I would keep thy words.  I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.

Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.  The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart.

The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.

I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O Lord: I will keep thy statutes.

Ecclesiastes 12:13
#Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Jeremiah 24:5‑7
Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.  For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.  And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

Jeremiah 32:37‑41
Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely: And they shall be my people, and I will be their God: And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.  Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

Matthew 9:20‑22 behold
behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.  But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

Matthew 15:30,31
And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

Ephesians 6:10‑17
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Readings from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

45:6
Our Master fully and finally demonstrated divine Science in his victory over death and the grave.  Jesus' deed was for the enlightenment of men and for the salvation of the whole world from sin, sickness, and death.  Paul writes: "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the [seeming] death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."  Three days after his bodily burial he talked with his disciples.  The persecutors had failed to hide immortal Truth and Love in a sepulchre.
147:6‑23
Late in the nineteenth century I demonstrated the divine rules of Christian Science.  They were submitted to the broadest practical test, and everywhere, when honestly applied under circumstances where demonstration was humanly possible, this Science showed that Truth had lost none of its divine and healing efficacy, even though centuries had passed away since Jesus practised these rules on the hills of Judaea and in the valleys of Galilee.
Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind‑healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science by a simple perusal of this book.  The book needs to be studied, and the demonstration of the rules of scientific healing will plant you firmly on the spiritual groundwork of Christian Science.  This proof lifts you high above the perishing fossils of theories already antiquated, and enables you to grasp the spiritual facts of being hitherto unattained and seemingly dim.

191:8
As a material, theoretical life‑basis is found to be a misapprehension of existence, the spiritual and divine Principle of man dawns upon human thought, and leads it to "where the young child was," ‑‑even to the birth of a new‑old idea, to the spiritual sense of being and of what Life includes.  Thus the whole earth will be transformed by Truth on its pinions of light, chasing away the darkness of error.

328:28‑13
Jesus' promise is perpetual.  Had it been given only to his immediate disciples, the Scriptural passage would read you, not they.  The purpose of his great life‑work extends through time and includes universal humanity.  Its Principle is infinite, reaching beyond the pale of a single period or of a limited following.  As time moves on, the healing elements of pure Christianity will be fairly dealt with; they will be sought and taught, and will glow in all the grandeur of universal goodness.
A little leaven leavens the whole lump.  A little understanding of Christian Science proves the truth of all that I say of it.  Because you cannot walk on the water and raise the dead, you have no right to question the great might of divine Science in these directions.  Be thankful that Jesus, who was the true demonstrator of Science, did these things, and left his example for us.  In Science we can use only what we understand.  We must prove our faith by demonstration.

340:4
This text in the book of Ecclesiastes conveys the Christian Science thought, especially when the word duty, which is not in the original, is omitted: "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:  Fear God, and keep His commandments:  for this is the whole duty of man."  In other words:  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:  love God and keep His commandments:  for this is the whole of man in His image and likeness.  Divine Love is infinite.  Therefore all that really exists is in and of God, and manifests His love.

369:30
No man is physically healed in wilful error or by it, any more than he is morally saved in or by sin.  It is error even to murmur or to be angry over sin.  To be every whit whole, man must be better spiritually as well as physically.  To be immortal, we must forsake the mortal sense of things, turn from the lie of false belief to Truth, and gather the facts of being from the divine Mind.  The body improves under the same regimen which spiritualizes the thought; and if health is not made manifest under this regimen, this proves that fear is governing the body.  This is the law of cause and effect, or like producing like.

371:27
The necessity for uplifting the race is father to the fact that Mind can do it; for Mind can impart purity instead of impurity, strength instead of weakness, and health instead of disease.  Truth is an alterative in the entire system, and can make it "every whit whole."

390:12‑6
When the first symptoms of disease appear, dispute the testimony of the material senses with divine Science.  Let your higher sense of justice destroy the false process of mortal opinions which you name law, and then you will not be confined to a sick‑room nor laid upon a bed of suffering in payment of the last farthing, the last penalty demanded by error.  "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him."  Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought.  Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin.  You have no law of His to support the necessity either of sin or sickness, but you have divine authority for denying that necessity and healing the sick.
"Agree to disagree" with approaching symptoms of chronic or acute disease, whether it is cancer, consumption, or smallpox.  Meet the incipient stages of disease with as powerful mental opposition as a legislator would employ to defeat the passage of an inhuman law.  Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit.  Blot out the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin.  Then, when thou art delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, "Thou art whole!"

469:25‑5
We lose the high signification of omnipotence, when after admitting that God, or good, is omnipresent and has all‑power, we still believe there is another power, named evil.  This belief that there is more than one mind is as pernicious to divine theology as are ancient mythology and pagan idolatry.  With one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science.

487:25‑6
The Apostle James said, "Show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works." The understanding that Life is God, Spirit, lengthens our days by strengthening our trust in the deathless reality of Life, its almightiness and immortality.
This faith relies upon an understood Principle.  This Principle makes whole the diseased, and brings out the enduring and harmonious phases of things.  The result of our teachings is their sufficient confirmation.  When, on the strength of these instructions, you are able to banish a severe malady, the cure shows that you understand this teaching, and therefore you receive the blessing of Truth.

Silent prayer followed by the audible repetition of the Lord’s Prayer.

 Hymn 421
 Violet Hay

From these Thy children gathered in Thy name,
From hearts made whole, from lips redeemed from woe,
Thy praise, O Father, shall forever flow.
     Alleluia!  Alleluia!

O perfect Life, in Thy completeness held,
 None can beyond Thy omnipresence stray;
Safe in Thy Love, we live and sing alway
     Alleluia!  Alleluia!

O perfect Mind, reveal Thy likeness true,
That higher selfhood which we all must prove,
Joy and dominion, love reflecting Love.
     Alleluia!  Alleluia!

Thou, Soul, inspiring‑‑give us vision clear,
Break earth‑bound fetters, sweep away the veil,
Show the new heaven and earth that shall prevail.
     Alleluia!  Alleluia!

Sharing of experiences, testimonies and remarks by members of the congregation.

 Hymn 153
Luke I:46 – Maria Louise Baum

In Thee, my God and Saviour,
   Forevermore the same,
 My spirit hath rejoicing,
   For holy is Thy name.
My soul doth magnify the Lord,
   Sing all in glad accord!
Praise Him who lifts the lowly,
   For faithful is His word.
 I magnify and bless Thee,
   For faithful is Thy word.

 Thou who alone art mighty
Hast done to me great things,
 Remembrance of Thy mercy
   Sure help to Israel brings.
Thy power, O Lord, will I extol,
   Who hast redeemed my soul;
I praise Thee, Lord, with gladness,
For Thou hast made me whole.
 I magnify and bless Thee,
For Thou hast made me whole.
